Men's Soccer - Mon, Oct. 2, 2017

On Saturday, the Montreat Cavaliers' men's soccer team played in the second of two games pitting both of Montreat soccer sides against the host Reinhardt Eagles. They fell to the Eagles in a close contest, 3-1.

Reinhardt's Todd Fidler had two scores for the home team, and the Eagles' Kevin Sosa scored his team's third goal in the game's waning minutes.

"The guys played hard to the end; I don't think 3-1 was an accurate reflection of the balance of play," said head coach Michael Bruce of the contest. "I was happy with how we dominated for large parts of the game, especially against such good, quality opposition."

Further positives for the visitors included William Stallworth (FR/Harrogate, TN)'s first career conference goal. The freshman's goal in the game's 79th minute narrowed the Eagles' lead to 2-1, and was the stuff of highlight reels.

Working to his right, Stallworth beat the Reinhardt defender just feet from the Eagles' right post and tucked the ball up and in past the Eagles' keeper with precision as he ran out of room on the pitch. It took multiple viewings for those streaming the game to confirm that Stallworth had managed to bury the score.

As the Cavaliers seek to rebound in another AAC matchup this Wednesday, "We need to work on staying disciplined in the little areas that we work on and talk about in practice," said Bruce.
