Women's Golf - Wed, Sep. 20, 2017

This past weekend, coaches John Sullivan and Amber Easler and the Montreat Cavaliers' women's golf team traveled south to participate in their first fall competition of the year at the SCAD-Atlanta Invitational.

The Cavs set the tone early for their 2017-2018 season by firing a school-record 332 at The Oaks in Covington, Georgia on Monday. On Tuesday, they set a school record again, posting a 330. Prior to Monday, Montreat's best team round was 351, set in 2010.

"I couldn't be more proud of how the girls performed this week," said Sullivan. "To play this well in our first event facing some pretty tough competition and to be able to post a new school record so early in the season gives us incredible momentum and motivation for the rest of the year. I told the girls on Monday after the first round how monumental that round was and how they had a lot to play for the second day."

In college golf competitions, five players play an 18-hole round and the top four scores are utilized in aggregate for the team score. As a team, the Cavaliers finished sixth out of nine with the AAC's Brenau University taking the top spot. The Cavs efforts helped them best Truett McConnell, Reinhardt University, and St. Andrews

"If we can eliminate careless mistakes around the greens and tighten up our game off the tee, I am confident we will begin to see even lower scores very soon," added Sullivan.

Here are your Montreat Cavs individual scores:

1. Sara Gwillim (SO/Bethalto, IL) -  80/82

2. Jamie Hubbard (FR/Hardeeville, SC) - SC 82/82

3. Emma Roberts (SO/Burlington, NC) - 83/84

4. Savannah Kummelman (FR/Plant City, FL) - 87/82

5. Bridgette Smith (FR/Newland, NC) - 92/92
