HELEN, GA - The Montreat College women's golf team competed in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Spring Championship on Monday and Tuesday at the Innsbruck Golf Resort in Helen, GA. Round one action was suspended due to stormy weather, and after a 6 hour rain delay, play resumed late Monday afternoon.
Sara Gwillim (FR/Bethalto, IL) led the charge for the ladies on day one with an opening round score of 83 which put her in 20th place after round one, but struggled to a 35th place finish overall. Samantha Telsrow (SO/Belmont, NC) fired her second lowest score of her collegiate career with a second round 95, which helped her advance to 48th place. The Lady Cav's finished in 10th place out of 11 schools for the event.
"Between the conditions of the course, the long rain delay and bad weather, conditions were extremely tough this week", said head coach John Sullivan. "I'm very proud of the girls for not giving up. We knew coming into our conference event we would be facing some strong competition but the girls gave it their all. We have a great foundation of talented young players, so we're excited to welcome a phenomenal recruiting class to join them next year."
The ladies will wrap up their spring campaign as they travel to Callaway Gardens Resort in Pine Mountain, GA for the AAC Direct Qualifier on April 17th & 18th. The event, which is the direct bid for the NAIA National Championship, will serve as the conclusion for the spring season.
