MONTREAT, NC (March 24, 2009) --- The Montreat College Softball team was visited by conference rival Tennessee Wesleyan for a double header on Tuesday. The Cavs swept Wesleyan winning game one 5-0 and edging out game two 3-2.
Rachel Stowe struck out six batters in the game one win. She also did not allow any base on balls.
Tameron Sealey led off the game in the first inning with a single and stolen base. Montreat struck early as Mandi Pike then hit an RBI double. The second inning would prove to be the biggest for the Cavaliers as they scored three more runs. Highlights include a single by Cassie Randall and a bunt single and another stolen base for Tameron Sealy. Mandi Pike would hit her second RBI of the game in the fourth inning to score the Cavaliers final run of the game.
In game two, Meredith Mitchell recorded the win as the Cavs held off a late sixth inning push by Wesleyan. She struck out six batters. Rachel Stowe came in late in the sixth inning to record the save as she struck out two more batters.
Montreat struck early again and scored two runs in the first inning. Amy Vogel, Mandi Pike, Amber Summerow, and Kerby Barkdoll all hit singles. Montreat would score their final run of the game in the fourth inning. Jamie Poling started the inning with a triple and was brought home by a Tameron Sealey RBI single. Tennessee Wesleyan would score two runs in the sixth inning, but could not get anything going in the seventh as the Cavaliers held on for the win.
Montreat improves to 4-2 in conference and 12-14 overall. Their next game is a double header against conference opponent Bluefield College on March 28th at home. Game time is 2:00 pm.
