WALESKA, GA - The Montreat College men's basketball team used strong free-throw shooting and poise down the stretch to come behind for a 105-88 win over Reinhardt University in a showdown of top-3 teams in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

The Cavaliers (18-6, 11-6 AAC) fell behind early in the first half and went into the break down 50-40. In the second half, the Reinhardt lead grew to 13 early and remained in double-digits until Terrell Sheffey (FR/Yorktown, VA) knocked down a three-pointer with 16:11 to go to cut the lead to 59-52. That basket was part of a 14-0 run that Montreat used to take a 61-59 lead after Jeron Hemphill (SO/Morganton, NC) broke away for a transition dunk. The lead would exchange hands numerous times over the next several minutes before Montreat erupted for a 16-2 run that gave them an 83-73 lead with 6:39 to play. The Cavaliers would roll from there, growing their lead to as many as 20 points en route to the victory.

Alonzo Mobley (SO/Lincolnton, NC) was a catalyst for the Montreat attack, finishing with 27 points on 9-16 shooting, including 9-10 from the free throw line. Mobley also led the team with 11 rebounds, matching the effort of Jeron Hemphill. Hemphill also contributed 22 points on 11-13 shooting. Spencer Norris (SO/Sylva, NC) hit 3-4 from beyond the arc and finished with 17 points while David Everage (JR/Las Vegas, NV) provided 10 points in the win. Overall, Montreat shot 58% (39-67) from the field and showed great poise at the free throw line, knocking down 80% (20-25) of their attempts for the game.

With the win, Montreat moves to within one game of the Eagles for second place in the AAC. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, February 8th when they travel to take on Bluefield at 7:30pm.
