MONTREAT, NC - The Montreat College men's basketball team survived a furious late rally by Truett-McConnell to take a 90-86 win in the final home game of the season.

The Cavaliers (17-6, 10-6 AAC) and the visiting Bears battled throughout the first half exchanged the lead five times with eight ties before Montreat went into the break up 38-37. In the second half, the Cavaliers continued to build momentum and pushed their lead to double-digits when Justin Storr (FR/Apoka, FL) found Jeron Hemphill (SO/Morganton, NC) for a basket to make it 56-45 with 12:15 to play. An ensuing 15-4 run by Montreat pushed the lead to 20 points with 3:24 to play and the Cavaliers seemed poised for an easy win. The Bears would respond with a furious comeback effort in the final minutes and guard Tylor Brown helped ignite a 23-5 run that cut the lead to two points in the final seconds. Truett-McConnell had two opportunities to tie the game late but were unable to do so as the Cavaliers escaped with the big conference win.

David Everage (JR/Las Vegas, NV) led four Montreat players in double figures as he scored 15 points while grabbing five rebounds. Derrick Cusano (FR/Big Stone Gap, VA) had his best game in a Montreat uniform, scoring 14 points while connecting on four three-pointers. Alonzo Mobley (SO/Lincolnton, NC) added 14 points while Jeron Hemphill contributed 12 points and six rebounds. The team shot 51% (30-58) from the field but struggled at the free-throw line for the second consecutive game, hitting on 20-40 (50%) attempts. The Cavaliers held a 33-28 rebounding advantage while forcing the Bears into 18 turnovers.

The team will hit the road for their final five regular-season contests, beginning with a trip to Reinhardt University on Saturday, February 4 at 4:00pm.
