MONTREAT, NC - The Montreat College men's basketball team dropped a 94-86 decision to #2 Union College on Saturday afternoon in a showdown of top-3 teams in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

The Cavaliers (16-6, 9-6 AAC) fell for only the second time at home all season, this time to a Union team that is undefeated in league play. Montreat built up a lead early, using a three-pointer by Zachary Davis (JR/Charlotte, NC) to take a 27-17 lead with 12:29 left in the first half. The talented Union team battled back to take the lead late in the half and went into halftime with a 43-42 lead.

In the second half, Alonzo Mobley (SO/Lincolnton, NC) scored seconds into the frame to put Montreat back in front 44-43. That would be the last time that the Cavaliers would hold the lead as Union used an 18-7 run to take control. Montreat would get the lead back under double-digits multiple times the rest of the way but the Bulldogs held on to take the win.

Alonzo Mobley led Montreat with 21 pointd while David Everage (JR/Las Vegas, NV) picked up a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Terrell Sheffey (FR/Yorktown, VA) scored 15 points while Jeron Hemphill (SO/Morganton, NC) added 11 points. The Cavaliers shot well from the floor, hitting 33-72 shots (45%) but were hindered by a rough game at the free-throw line, connecting on only 12-24 (50%) of their attempts.

Montreat will be back in action on Wednesday, February 1st when they host Truett-McConnell at 7:30pm in the final home game of the regular season.
