MONTREAT, NC - After suffering a tough road loss to St. Andrews earlier in the week, the Montreat College men's basketball team got back to their winning ways, defeating Tennessee-Wesleyan 104-88 in a showdown of top-4 teams in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

The Cavaliers (15-4, 8-4 AAC) got a basket from David Everage (JR/Las Vegas, NV) just ten seconds into the game and they would never trail as they improved to 10-1 at McAlister Gymnasium this season. After two Bulldog free throws cut the Montreat lead to 13-12, the Cavaliers responded with a 9-0 run to push their lead to double-digits. The teams continued to go back-and-forth from there with Montreat taking a 52-44 lead into halftime.

In the second half, back-to-back baskets by Alonzo Mobley (SO/Lincolnton, NC) got the lead back to double-digits for Montreat at the 12:21 mark and they would hold that lead until a quick burst from Tennessee-Wesleyan cut the Montreat lead to 84-79 with 5:57 to play. The Cavaliers responded with a 11-2 run capped by a basket from Terrell Sheffey (FR/Yorktown, VA) to put the game out of reach.

The Cavaliers shot 55% (35-63) from the field and benefited from a balanced offensive attack that saw six players reach double-figure scoring. Alonzo Mobley led the team with 21 points and added eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocked shots. Jeron Hemphill (SO/Morganton, NC) continued his stellar play off of the bench, scoring 17 points while David Everage added 16 points. The Cavaliers got 13 points from D.J. Caldwell (SO/Charlotte, NC) and the duo of Terrell Sheffey and Zachary Davis (JR/Charlotte, NC) both chipped in 12 points. The Montreat defense held the Bulldogs to 38% shooting while forcing 20 turnovers.

With the win, the Cavaliers claim sole possession of third place in the AAC standings and they are tied for second in the loss column with Reinhardt. Montreat will be back in action on Monday, January 23rd when they host Bryan College at 7:30pm
