MONTREAT, NC - The Montreat College men's basketball team pushed their winning streak to three games and avenged an early-season loss as they defeated Allen University 94-90 on Saturday night in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.

The Cavaliers (13-3, 7-3 AAC) fell behind the Yellow Jackets 8-2 early in the contest but soon made up the difference while using a 14-3 run to take a 40-27 lead with 6:20 to go in the first half. Allen would respond and cut the lead to 44-43 late in the frame but two baskets by Jeron Hemphill (SO/Morganton, NC) gave Montreat a 48-43 lead at halftime.

In the second half, both teams played at a high level and the result was a frame that included seven ties and ten lead changes. With 8:06 to play, Sean Doman (JR/Queens, NY) found Alonzo Mobley (SO/Lincolnton, NC) for a score that broke a tie and put the Cavaliers on top 77-75. While Allen would continue to push, they would get no closer than one point the rest of the way, as D.J. Caldwell (SO/Charlotte, NC) hit four free throws late to ice the win for Montreat.

Alonzo Mobley led all players with 21 points on 8-12 shooting while grabbing six rebounds. David Caldwell scored 17 points in 18 minutes of game action while Jeron Hemphill picked up his second consecutive double-double, collecting 15 points and 10 rebounds. David Everage (JR/Las Vegas, NV) scored 13 points and added six rebounds while Zach Davis scored ten points.

Montreat showed off their offensive efficiency, shooting 58% (34-59) from the floor, including 9-16 from the three-point line. The team dished out 17 assists while forcing Allen into 20 turnovers.

The Cavaliers will be back in action on Monday, January 16th when they travel to Crown College in their final non-conference matchup. Tipoff at McAlister Gymnasium is set for 6pm.
