GAFFNEY, SC (March 14, 2009) --  The Montreat College Softball team traveled to Gaffney, SC on Saturday to play NCAA Division II Limestone College in a non-conference doubleheader.  The Cavs split with Limestone winning game one 5-0 and losing game two 4-5.

Rachel Stowe earned the win for Montreat in game one after she pitched the entire game, gave up six hits, and allowed one walk. She also struck out one batter.  The win marked Stowe's sixth this season.

The Cavs struck first in the first inning when senior Mandi Pike hit her second home run of the season.   It was a solo shot to give the Cavs a 1-0 lead.  In the third inning, freshman Tameron Sealey and senior Amber Summerow both singled to reach base.  Freshman Olivia Huffman grounded out which allowed Sealey to reach home and Summerow to reach second.  Senior Amy Vogel hit a hard ground ball to Limestone's second baseman which led to an error by the defense and allowed Summerow to score giving the Cavs a 3-0 advantage.

The Cavs would put up two more runs in the fifth.  Summerow would reach first on her second single for the day.  Pike's single would allow Summerow to reach third.  Vogel again hit a ground ball that would score Summerow.  Stowe's ground ball later in the inning would lead to another error by Limestone, allowing Pike to score.

In game two, after a 4-4 deadlock, Limestone would score a run in the eighth inning to give the Saints the 5-4 win.

In the second inning, junior Kerby Barkdoll reach first on a fielder's choice and would steal second base.  On a pass ball by Limestone's pitcher, Barkdoll reached third.  A single by sophomore Jamie Poling would score Barkdoll.

In the sixth inning, Pike singled and Huffman walked.  Transfer Meredith Mitchell converted on her second home run of the season which was a three-run bomb to give the Cavs a 4-2 advantage.  Limestone's Hannah Mills would tie the game in the sixth with a two-run home run.  She would later deliver the game-winning RBI for the Saints.

Cavalier Meredith Mitchell picked up the loss.

The Cavs go to 7-11 for the season and will open up their conference season on the road on Wednesday, March 18 as they take on Union College.
