BREVARD, NC (March 17, 2009) -- The Montreat College golf program hosted its annual spring invitational on Monday and Tuesday.  Day one for the men saw Limestone have a five stroke lead over North Greenville University.  Unfortunately the men did not have enough participate to have a team score.  Sophomore Cory Howard did shoot an 84 for day one.

For the women, Tennessee Wesleyan dominated day one with a score of 337, enjoying a 14 point stroke lead over Spartanburg Methodist.  The Montreat women shot a 372, falling to fourth behind Erskine College.  Junior Ashley Mitcham led the Cavs with a score of 88. Close behind Mitcham was freshman Brittany Zachrich with 90.

In the final day of play, Limestone men were able capture first place with a 298 score on day two giving them a 589 for the tournament (291-298).  Brevard men were able to improve on Tuesday holding off North Greenville for second place (299-296). North Greenville finished in third with a score of 597 (296-301).

Sophomore Cory Howard improved on day two with an 82 giving him a tournament score of 166 (84-82).

Tennessee Wesleyan women dominated again on Tuesday, scoring their second day of 337 for a tournament score of 674. Despite a worse performance on Tuesday, Spartanburg Methodist was able to hold on to second place with a score of 717 (351-366). Erskine claimed third with a score of 728 (362-366). Montreat improved their first day score by one stroke with a 371, giving them a 743 for the tournament. 

Freshman Brittany Zachrich led all Montreat scores on day two with an 89, tying junior Ashley Mitcham's overall score with a 179. Mitcham shot a 91 for day two. 

The Cavaliers next tournament will be on April 1 against Benedict College in a dual match at Crooked Creek Golf Course in Hendersonville, NC.
