Montreat's track and field team represented well at the 2009 Myrtle Beach Half Marathon. The Cavaliers placed three finishers in the top 20 in a field of over 2800 runners. Senior Justin Edwards led all Montreat runners by clocking 1:18:16 in 8^th place overall. Sophomore Andrew Hege finished just seconds behind in 9^th place with a time of 1:18:28. Hege won his age group while Edwards finished second in his. Sophomore Ben Hall also ran very well in a time of 1:20:04 for 17^th place. Freshman Lady Cavalier Kayla Suiter finished her first half marathon in a solid 1:38:44 for 171st place.

"Our runners are demonstrating great competitiveness.  This is a great introduction to our outdoor track season.  We have another half marathon that most of the team will compete in in March, so we're hoping to have a few national qualifiers in that race," said head coach Jose Larios.  "Kayla had a great debut and Jed and Andrew set a great example for our underclassmen.  I feel very certain that we'll have a few qualifiers at our next one in Albany."
